An Interview With Tempie King

Tell us a bit about yourself. What would you like us to know about you?
I'm Tempie D. King, I was born in Memphis. I lived in Louisville and Chicago the past 20 years and recently returned to my home in Memphis. I love writing and reading coupled with a passion for sales and marketing. I have a B.S. Degree in Pre-Med and have attended Writers Digest School of Novel Writing.

As a writer, I chose to only use the name,"Tempie"
What are you doing now? (Career? Married? Single? Children? Pets?)
I am currently engaged to a fellow author/journalist/poet/writer who lives in Crawley, England. I have no children however am the godmother and aunt for many. I am currently collaborating works with my fiance' Albert Williams. We am combining our literary and marketing skills together to become the best winning team ever!
What is your favourite food?
I love breakfast food any time of the day. I'm a southern girl and can smell and eat grits, or oatmeal or rice with scrambled eggs and biscuits with either sausage, bacon or even a T-bone steak at any time all through the day.
What is your favourite colour?
I love red! Then purple and pink!
What is your favourite sound?
I love quiet or the waves of flowing waters.
Who is your favourite person?
My fiance' Albert Williams! To me he is the best man in the world!
What is your favourite place?
To be with him in Crawley, England!
What is your favourite memory?
At dinner time with my family when mom and dad were here. Just seeing my mom in the kitchen cooking all those different dishes just to please each one of her five children and husband. And to see my dad smile and tell her, "Honey this is the best food I ever had!"
What is your favourite article of clothing?
A tank top or blouse. I think it can be worn in a way to reflect the true femininity of a woman.
What is your favourite word?
Thanks! Gratitude to me is the essence of it all!
What is your favourite writers' quote and why?
" This above all: to thine own self be true "
-- William Shakespeare

For me besides putting God first , I feel one should always be true to him or herself in all you do. Then and only then can you be true to others. Intregrity to me is what you are.
What is your most favourite quality about yourself?
I feel to be able to always show my emotions and not be afraid or ashamed and still remain steadfast and strong in my convictions and beliefs.
What is the least favourite quality about yourself?
I many times see in others more than they see in themselves.
If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
To Crawley, England to my fiance' Albert.
What inspires you to write and why?
I write as a form of expression. I write for so many different reasons. I am inspired simply to be able to write with a freedom to write as I see, feel, hear and taste my words.
What is your favourite book and why?
Haunted Heritage and Other Stories.
ISBN 1-4241-0680-X

It is my favorite for several reasons, first it is a great book and written by my fiance' Albert.

Secondly, it reminds me of the bible in the respect that for me each time I read it I have a new and different inspiration and realness triggered by a word, sentence, phrase or story.
What is your favourite genre and why?
My favorite is fiction. I love fiction because I have the freedom and ability to be creative and develop. I love being able to write about something and have it turn out the way you want it. And not necessarily how it is. That gives a great healing effect to me.
List your three favourite authors (any genre) and why?
Richard Wright (A great literary classic writer) I simply identify with his writings and his style being a black american born in Mississppi moving to Memphis and Chicago.

Og Mandino (Fiction)His style of writing fascinates me bescause of his ability to write with such real interwoven spiritual truths you don not know if it is fiction or non-fiction.

Albert Williams (The makings of a great literary scholar) His style of writing has so much depth and versitility to me. He is able to take you on a wonderful journey using all your emotions in one sentence or even a title.
What do you think makes a writer successful?
I feel a writer is successful for two main reasons;

1).when a reader can perceive and understand the message as the writer wrote it.

2).when the message can be read and understood by anyone who chooses to read it, from the simple uneducated person on the street to a person who has mastered the craft of writing.
Whta is it that makes you successful as a writer?
I think because I know I have just gotten started and will never reach a level of perfection so I will always have to keep learning and growing.
What are your goals as a writer?
To become a great literary writer and be placed close by some of my mentors. To always strive to be better in mastering the craft of writing. To become more active in all aspects as to keep abreast of all modern time developments.
What is the best tip you can give to fellow writers?
To be as a "sponge" and absorb all you can from all the writers you can. Successful and unsuccessful. See what made them succeed and see what made the others fail. Learn from their failures. Take away something always from the successes and apply it to yourself to become better than you ever imagined possible.
What do you hope to provide your readers with through your writing?
Great hope and inspiration. That by following your dreams and determinations you can overcome all adverities.

Manerva R. Jones, trapped in the moment of her southern roots until she discovers her
freedom lay deeper than life itself. Her sense of passion, power and spirit drives her to
hone in on injustice at all cost. Injustice that takes her on a journey to the city of
Chicago meeting two profound people in her life. All three ultimately realizing the irony
and cost bound to their freedom. Battling love and lust. Wanting to do the right
thing. Knowing God will forgive them but could they? Torn between deciding to
continue living to please family or following their heart to happiness? Faced with
confronting reality and knowing what was done, you may loose everything if the truth is
told? Having different backgrounds, pursuing different professions and desiring different
dreams, lead all three to show in their reaching out and understanding of one another that they are yet the same.
